making Floaters and Sprinklers in various colours
Process:
Jag prövar mig fram, det ena leder till det andra. Ställer mig frågan hur blir det om jag gör så här?
En platt perforerad Rundel välvs till Svävare. Jag undersöker välvningens form.
I tanken vänder jag Svävarens form ut och in och Strilarna påbörjas.
De perforerade mönstret på en Rundel rätas ut förstoras och blir ett Band.
Ett Band som jag böjer blir en Port.
Ett hål blir en pöl av glasyr.
The process:
I am trying out, one thing leads to another. Asking my self what will become if I do like this?
A flat perforated Rounded piece turns into a Floater. I investigate the Floater arched.
In my thought I twist the Floater outside in and the work with Sprinklers starts.
The perforated pattern on one Rounded flattens out gets enlarged and becomes a Ribbon.
A Ribbon I bend into an Arch. A hole becomes a pond.
Svävarna:
”Jag vill att de skall uttrycka lätthet och ge en svävande känsla där de hänger på väggen.
Den krackelerade torra glasyren förstärker intrycket av skörhet. Ljuset är viktigt och skuggorna som bildas är också betydelsefulla, förgängliga och föränderliga.”
Floaters:
I want them to express ease and give a floating feeling placed on the wall.
The crackeling dry glaze reinforce the impression of fragility. Light is important and the shadows is also of importance, transient and changing.
Strilarna:
Jag ville hitta en form som var i rörelse, som liksom fortsatte i bägge riktningarna.
Som i sin form var en slags motsats till svävarna men ändå uttryckte lätthet och ljus.
Sprinklers:
Spreading ease and light
Band:
Mönsterbitar, förstorade utsnitt av perforerade Rundlar som rätats ut och sedan utvecklats.
Ribbons:
Pieces of pattern enlarged and streched.
Bågarna:
Böjde ett band och vips var det en port.
En öppning en skiljelinje, en övergång från ett till ett annat, där man släpper taget där allt kan hända.
Arches:
A bowed Ribbon becomes an Arch.

What is a Riddle?
"Riddle" har flera betydelser och jag tyckte det var ett passande namn på de senaste fyrkantiga väggobjekten, genombrutna med rektangulära hål . "Riddle" kan bl.a. betyda gåta, filter och såll.
"Riddle" has more than one meaning, I thought they were suitable names of the last objects, with rectangular holes, that I made. It means enigma, brainteaser, filter, screen and sieve amongst other things.

2008 Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramic Award
Entering its 10th year, the 2008 Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramic Award will be the Shepparton Art Gallery’s largest exhibition of international ceramics to date. This year’s judge, contemporary artist Ah Xian, http://www.artmolds.com/ali/halloffame/ah_xian.htm, has expertly short-listed 53 artworks from 20 countries. ... In a move away from the traditional form of the vessel, this year’s entries reveal a global trend towards non-traditional sculptural forms.
Gallery Director Kirsten Paisley said the exhibition was footnoted with two special loans including Ah Xian’s China China – Bust 71 (2002) National Gallery of Victoria, and Jason Lim’s Just Dharma (2007) which represented Singapore in the 2007 Venice Biennale.
“These works propose a new direction for the future of the award; a broadening of ceramic definitions to question the place of the artist-hand and the qualities of permanence and preciousness which have been central to our understanding of ceramic art to date.”
The artworks short-listed highlight their material and technical construction and are characterised by unusual surface treatments, rendered with skill and innovation.
Notions common to contemporary art practice such as interrogations of identity and ethnicity, the nature-culture dichotomy, and spatial and political flux underpin many of these pieces.
To augment the award, the gallery is hosting an international symposium of master-class workshops and seminars, together with an official awards ceremony. Ah Xian, together with a number of prominent Australian and overseas artists, will present at the symposium, providing a platform for cross-cultural learning and exchange.

Taiwan Ceramics Biennale 2008 hosted by Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum are honored to receive 684 entries from 58 countries. The preliminary selection has been judged by seven jury members from Taiwan and the worldwide. 114 submission works are qualified to entry into the final selection. The Organizing Committee will send the results via email and post mail.Thanks for all the ceramists participating in the competition of Taiwan Ceramics Biennale 2008.
